How to Unlock your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs provide superior convenience and performance to a traditional manual key. Batteries eventually degrade and will require replacement. If your Volvo key fob is beginning to malfunction intermittently, it's a good sign that the battery is depleted and will require replacement soon.

Fortunately, there are easy steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery at your own expense. Find a clean area to work on. Then, arrange all the tools you need. Locate the battery hatch and make sure that it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver, coin or a similar tool to make the hatch to open. Next, carefully pry the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to protect the clips and electronic contact surfaces.

Place the new battery into the socket after the previous one has been removed. Ensure that the positive side of the battery is facing up and that all clips are in place. Slide the cover towards the key-ring area until it becomes loose, and is able to slide off. Then, remove the cover and reveal the mechanical key blade that is hidden within. This is a way to unlock your car by the driver's side doors in the event that the key fob battery is dead or lost.

How to Start Your Vehicle

Modern vehicles are equipped with key fobs that do more than just unlock and secure the doors. They can also perform useful functions such as summoning or auto parking the vehicle. The latest Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine by using the key fob buttons. But what exactly is it that works?

First, locate a clean surface on which you can lay out all the essential items for this project. Place the fob on top of the surface with the Volvo logo facing upwards. Then you will need a flathead screwdriver, coin or similar tool to turn the battery hatch back to the open position. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces of the fob with your tools, as this may cause the key fob to cease functioning properly.

When the hatch is opened then slide the battery into its socket and make sure it is properly seated with the positive (+) side facing up. After the clips are secured into place, remove the battery cover and then put it back together the fob.

By pressing the unlock button once the alarm will disengaged and the driver's door will be unlocked. Pressing it again will unlock all doors as well as the tailgate. The unlock button is also beneficial for rolling down the windows to let in cool, fresh air in the summer heat. If you'd like to do more than that, the keyfob can be used to turn on the ERS that will begin the climate control system of your vehicle. It will warm or cool the vehicle to the desired temperature settings when the vehicle is in a parking.

How to Unlock the Hidden Key Blade

Volvo's keyfobs have evolved in recent years. They're more than just a remote to lock and starting your car; they can also shut your windows, and even provide a boost in an emergency. You will first need to master using your key fob to maximize its potential.

The key fob you have in your possession has transponder chips that are programmed to your Volvo. When you insert the key fob into the ignition barrel transponder chips read the code and compares it with the one that is stored in the start inhibitor module of your car. If the codes aren't compatible and your car doesn't start, it won't. This is an important security measure to stop your Volvo from running if the wrong ignition key is used.

You'll need to take the key you lost to a dealer to get it replaced. Your vehicle will also be programmed. This process can take between 5 and 10 days and cost you a considerable amount of money. There is an option to reduce some of the costs by programming the system at home. You can find all the information you need in the owner's manual, or on the internet. Take off the logo and non-logo covers and lay your key fob on an uncluttered surface. Find the gray button on the upper right-hand corner of the fob. Press it down. The cover will then be opened to reveal the CR2032 3V battery.
